On 26is Oktovriou Street in Thessaloniki, a seven-minute walk from the waterfront promenade, there used to be a hair salon. We rebuilt it from scratch into a small holiday-let apartment with a bedroom, a living room and a kitchen. It was sold to an investor who uses it both for holidays and as an investment.

One apartment, two uses

The owners come to Thessaloniki on holiday about three times a year and stay in the apartment. The rest of the time it is let short term through Airbnb, giving them a good return. It suits anyone who wants a small home in a city they love without it standing empty most of the year.

Worth keeping in mind: short-term rental income depends on the season, occupancy and management, and it is taxed in Greece. It is wise to check the numbers for the specific apartment before committing.

What the renovation involved

The salon was rebuilt as a home: a separate bedroom, a living room screened from the kitchen by a black slatted partition, an equipped kitchen, wood-effect floors and air conditioning. The bathroom has a shower and a washing machine. The apartment was handed over furnished and ready for guests.
